When the job is done, you’ll need to reset the oil life monitor on your vehicle. But how? Take a look at our guide on how to reset the oil life light on a Honda Accord. You’ll have all the information you need for your Olmsted Falls maintenance tasks.

How to Reset Your Honda Accord Oil Light

There are two main ways to reset the Honda Accord oil light. It depends on the level of technology in your car. There is one way to perform this reset when you have a multi-information display or the way through the buttons on your steering wheel. Look over the simple steps on how to reset the oil life on a Honda Accord below:

  1. Turn on the ignition (one position before starting the engine).
  2. Press Menu using the left-hand-side controls on the steering wheel.
  3. Look at the menu screen.
  4. Use (+) to choose Vehicle Information.
  5. Hit the SOURCE button.
  6. Press SOURCE once more to visit the Maintenance screen.
  7. See the engine oil life on the i-MID (intelligent Multi-Information Display).
  8. Use the (-) to choose Yes.
  9. Press SOURCE.
  10. Turn off the ignition.
  11. Start the engine to make sure the reset worked.

Here’s how to reset the oil life on a Honda Accord through buttons on your steering wheel instead:

  1. Turn the ignition to run (one click before starting the engine).
  2. Press the Select/Reset button located on either your steering wheel or as a knob on your dash.
  3. Depending on your model, either scroll through or press the knob repeatedly until “Engine Oil Life” or “Engine Oil Indicator %” is displayed.
  4. Press and hold the Select/Reset button for 10 seconds.
  5. Look at the blinking Engine Oil Indicator light.
  6. Select the Reset mode by pressing the Info button on the steering wheel if your display reads “Engine Oil Life”.
  7. Press the Select/Reset button to return your oil life to 100%.

Please make sure you actually change the oil in your Honda Accord before resetting the oil change light. If your Honda Accord oil light is still on, we suggest bringing your car to our North Olmsted service center. We’d be happy to troubleshoot the issue.

Honda Accord Oil Type

The recommended Honda Accord oil type is a full synthetic SAE 0W-20 grade motor oil. You’ll need to replace your current Honda Accord oil with this type of fresh engine oil. Then you’ll need to reset the Honda Accord oil life light after performing an oil change.
